Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) is availible to any veterans
aged 35-60. It offers up to 12 months of free job training assistance to
unemployed Veterans. Visit: for more info.

Homeless Resource Network’s new housing coordinator has been hired and is
Anastasia Pollard!

There is a funding opportunity for a New Permanent Supportive Housing
project that helps people experiencing homelessness with a disability in the
2012 Continuum of Care application.   If you are interested in applying or
know someone who is, please contact:

HMIS Training is available June 6th and June 20th @ 2pm at the Homeless
Resource Network. Please contact: if you
will be coming or are interested in  using an HMIS system.

Stewart Community Home currently has vacancies. Some of the qualifications
are: You must be homeless, be 18 or over, have a mental or physical
disability, and be making 1200.00 or less a month (or have no income) Please

Johnnie Robinson from House of Restoration is running for Phenix City Mayor.

St Anne’s Outreach has a large selection of household wares for people
leaving homelessness for housing. The items are available by referrals. They
also have a clothing closit available to those in need. They are open Monday
– Thursday, 9:00 – 11:30am. Call 706-568-1592 for more info.

The Lazarus Society

“The Lazarus Society Inc. “Helping others help themselves”- The
Church (Saint Patrick Catholic Church), through the Lazarus Society, meets
needs of the larger community.  Lazarus Outreach, right around the corner
from  Saint Patrick Catholic Church  at 16th and Broad St., is open Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday at 9:00 in the morning.  The first 20 who come to the
door for assistance are seen. Food, clothing, prescription assistance, and
utility assistance is offered when the funds are available.  There is also a
layette program for new mothers where a box of new baby items is
supplied. The Lazarus Thrift Shop is a two-fold blessing.  It
provides Lazarus with the items necessary to meet the needs of clients as
well as funds to help those who come to Lazarus for assistance.”

They also help people find housing, as well as the proper medical and dental
care that they need. Please note that food is available only for Alabama
Residents, and an Alabama picture ID is required to show residency.
The Lazarus Thrift shop is open Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays, 9-4pm.

Current Needs:
Lazarus accepts donations of new or gently used clothing and undergarments
for men, women, and children. Household items and furniture is also needed.
There is a donation box in the Lazarus parking lot for thrift shop items.

There is always a need for food items such as canned goods, nonperishables
and staples like flour, shortening, sugar, and cereal, as well as, bath
soap, shampoo and conditioner, toothbrushes and toothpaste, laundry soap,
dish detergent, and household cleaners, are always welcome. A box is located
in the rear of the church for donations and they may also be dropped off at
the Lazarus Office on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 9 – 12 or the “2nd’s
to Go Thrift Shop” from 10 – 4.

Lazarus is a volunteer operation and always in need of a helping hand.
